Finding a Title for Untitled

BY JAY DENSON When you think of R&B male groups as it applies today, the genre is almost non-existent. Gone are the days of Jodeci, Dru-Hill, and Boyz II Men who dominated the charts during the 90’s. If you were to stop and ask the average person who listens to R&B music some favorites, you’re almost [...]

YOU LOVE YOU

ALBUM REVIEW BY PHONZ L. THOMAS

semi_precious_weapons

This summer’s rock music scene is about three words: Semi Precious Weapons. The self-proclaimed ‘Glam-rock/alternative’ group consisting of Cole Whittle (bass), Stevy Pyne (guitar), Dan Crean (drums) and Justin Tranter (lead vocalist) will debut their first studio album on Geffen Records titled, You Love You. The album is a follow-up of their debut EP We Love You which they released back in 2008 under indie label, Razor & Tie. You Love You is jam-packed with hit song after hit song – starting off with their self-titled track “Semi Precious Weapons,” where Justin’s vocals glide across guitar riffs and pounding drums screaming, “I can’t pay my rent but I’m fucking gorgeous.” This particular song sets the tone for the rest of the nine-track album and already has been declared the rock anthem of the summer.

Semi Precious Weapons pack a mean punch. With productions from Jack Joseph Puig and Lady Gaga; this is an album that true alternative/rock scene listeners will idolize, and listeners from opposing music genres will respect. “Statues of Ourselves” is one of the more mellow tracks off the album with a encrypted message in the music. “Sticky with Champagne” is an entertaining song that’s bound to make even the most submissive groupie blush.  One of the best tracks on the album, “Leave Your Pretty to Me” is a rock ballad where Tranter confesses his love to his troubled leading lady. It will make you rock out and cry at the same time! Other tracks highly recommended for listening include: “Put a Diamond In It,” “Magnetic Baby,” and “Rock N Roll Never Looked So Beautiful.”

Over all, You Love You is an exceptional piece of work for the ears and gets a perfect ten on our scale of music worth purchasing. Semi Precious Weapons made sure to put together an album that sounds unlike anything else ever heard in alternative/rock before. It’s rare in today’s music you find a band that remains true to the roots of the sound for which they coined themselves with. Be sure to show your support for the ‘glam rock kunty’ band, Semi Precious Weapons and their new album You Love You out now in stores and on iTunes. You won’t be disappointed.

Be sure to catch them on Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Tour coming to a city near you:
