KATY PERRY’S TEENAGE DREAM
ALBUM REVIEW
California native & Capitol Records recording artist, Katy Perry is back with her highly anticipated sophomore album, Teenage Dream which is available in stores and online (Amazon/iTunes) today. Teenage Dream packs a mean punch with rock riffs and incomparable lyrical content to match. “When I was touring, I wanted people to dance more. So I wrote an album that made people move, yet didn’t sacrifice the story substance that I had on the last record,” according to Katy. The album in its entirety is a work of art that taps into every emotion from blissful to miserable. “I’m giving everyone the full spectrum on this record,” Katy says. “You’re getting the sugary sweet (“California Gurl” featuring Snoop Dogg), but you’re also getting the ‘Oh my goodness, she had to sit down for a minute and let some things off her chest’.”
One song in particular that showcases Katy’s depth in complete content is “Circle The Drain.” This song depicts a relationship with a young man who has no ambition and whose lack of ambition is bringing Katy down. Therefore, Katy expresses in the song that she must make a choice to stay or go. For anyone who’s ever had to call it quits with that someone who you loved but just couldn’t seem to get their life together, this song will touch a cord. “Not Like The Movies” is another profound track that is a must listen to. The album, whose producers include Max Martin, Tricky Stewart, Stargate, Dr. Luke and Greg Wells, is a glorious evolution from “One of The Boys,” It showcases an artist who dares us to join her as she experiences every facet of life. Other notable tracks include: “The One That Got Away,” “Last Friday Night (TGIF),” “Peacock,” “ET,” and “Firework.”
Overall the album gets a nine point five out of ten. Teenage Dream is a solid listen all the way through. Sophomore albums usually let you know what an artist is really made of and often foretell their longevity in this machine called ‘the music industry’ and with that said it looks like Katy Perry has proved she is here to stay and is living her Teenage Dream.
